2009 CORE: WHY WE’RE GOING BACK TO BLACKBERRY STATUS UPDATES
Before the BlackBerry, updating your Facebook meant sitting down at a computer and logging into your account to say something. There was a pause between the moment and the post, which meant you had time to filter yourself. Then the BlackBerry removed that pause. You posted in motion, mid-conversation, mid-night, mid-feeling. If your status ended with ” Sent via BlackBerry,” everyone knew you were outside.
It was a dynamic moment in our culture shaped by early social media and transitional technology. You still shared music on burned CDs or through a YouTube link, and Myspace still had a lingering presence like a bad fart.
This mixtape brings back songs that lived between those moments, the immediate status update, and the later song link that confirmed it.
